Rainy Day Books is Kansas City's Community Bookseller and the oldest Independent Bookstore in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. Since 1975, Rainy Day Books has been more than just a bookstore. We are a gathering place for all lovers of literature, a catalyst for positive change in our community, and an advocate of literacy.

Rainy Day Books is a full-service bookstore. We put all of our care, expertise and energy into curating a selection of books unique to our store and community. Our booksellers are the best in the country and take pride in putting the right books in the right hands.

We currently hold a variety of book clubs and host hundreds of author events annually, fostering a sense of connection and shared love for literature. Each year, we welcome a diverse array of authors to Kansas City, from debut novelists destined for greatness to prize-winners, bestsellers, and the biggest names in the news.
