Sunflowers in a Blue Pitcher
31 July 1999
Torch Lake, Michigan
July on Torch Lake is in full-blown summer—swimming all day, sailing, beach dinners, bonfires, songs, and s’mores with the family and friends. And when the sunflowers bloom, it reminds me of all the fun we’ve had as the end of summer winds down; before we pack up, try to find some shoes that fit, cluster around each car loaded for home to give hugs as my cousins head out for the school year, and for those of us who remain, to dive into Torch Lake for one last swim before we, too, leave until next summer.
