About Friends Of The Old Courthouse..
Friends of the Old Courthouse is a non-profit organization (501c3) dedicated to educating and raising awareness of the historical significance of the Old Courthouse Center on the Woodstock Square in Woodstock, IL. The old McHenry County Courthouse was designed by Chicago architect John Mills Van Osdel and was constructed in 1857, with a spring 1858 opening. This pre-Civil War building was in service until 1972 when private owners bought it, and then the City of Woodstock acquired it in 2011 and began extensive renovations. Also part of the Old Courthouse Center is the Sheriff's House, built in 1887. The buildings were listed on the National Historic Register of Historic Places in 1974.
