The Capture of Fort Ticonderoga on May 10, 1775, was the first American victory of the American Revolutionary War. Early in the morning, colonial forces led by Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold launched a surprise attack on the British garrison at Fort Ticonderoga in New York. The small British force was caught off guard and surrendered without much fighting. The victory was important because it gave the Americans control of the fort and access to valuable cannons and supplies. These cannons were later transported to Boston, where they helped force the British to withdraw from the city in 1776. Visit
